Freedom
Day 2, March 15, 2003
Susan and Jan prepare to quilt. Rose Marie sewed at home.
She took seven pre-cut kits to make into quilts on her "power
machine,"
the very machine she used in her sewing factory during WWII.
Kathleen came
back and is still smiling on day two!!
Judy Leach is
nearly hidden as the first stack of quilts completed grows. We hope
to finish and send 50 quilts by the end of March. Everyone who has
helped has shown such a wonderful enthusiasm for the work.
Jennifer Gaston
and her two children worked as a team on their quilt. Kids love doing
their part for the troops.
Ali started
later in the morning (due to needing to meet a toddler's schedule),
and is thrilled when her quilt top is finished. Quilting is just too
much fun! Karen and Mary joined the day's quilting comraderie.
Red was the
color of the day for these friends. Eleanor and Teri work together
to help Melissa make two quilts, one for her fiance and one for his
best friend who was deployed with him.
The finished
quilts are packed for shipping to the troops. Susan is in charge of
the recipient list and the mailings. Currently we have 31 names on
the "send to" list.
Christina shows
a beautiful quilt of flags while Susan cuts out her pieces at the
cutting table.
Lynn Dupree
is proud of a job well done. She completed two quilts, even while
having to dash out to ferry her children to and from their activities!
Karen Borges arrived in the afternoon and said, "What can I do?"
She got busy and finished up several projects that others had started
and had to leave unfinished. What a great help that was.
Ellen arrived
to admire her mom's handiwork. Kids love quilts too.
Do you think
they're related?
Karen puts another
finished quilt in the box for shipping.
"Pack them
up. We're here to get those quilts to the troops." How quilts
really get shipped out.
