Wake up
Lake Tahoe!

It's time to test for RADON!

For 24 years I had high levels of radon gas in my house, and I did not know it. When I tested my house and understood the problem, I was able to fix it myself. This web page is dedicated to people like myself who want to know if they have a radon problem and want to get it fixed.

Radon is a radioactive gas that causes lung cancer. It is colorless, odorless, tasteless and impossible to detect without a test. Radon is produced by the normal decay of uranium, an element that is found in nearly all soils, but higher concentrations are found in the decomposed granite soils of the Sierra Nevadas. When it gets trapped in houses built on those soils, it posses a lung cancer risk.

Radon is not a trivial problem. According to the EPA, radon causes over 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year, second only to cigarette smoke. That's over 50 deaths a day!

But don't panic! Radon is easy to test for and very fixable if you find high levels. This web site provides information and resources about radon, how to test for it, and how to get rid of it. There is also a section for those who want to do-it-yourself.
